The Val Versa, a true paradise for hikers and wine lovers

Val Versa, which takes its name from the eponymous stream, is known for its villages full of churches and small rural museums that allow you to immerse yourself in the local culture. From Colli Verdi to Montecalvo Versiggia to Golferenzo, there are many places to visit.

History and features of the Val Versa

In pre-Roman times it was inhabited by the Ligurians, who introduced the cultivation of vines. A cultivation that has become the main activity of the valley. With more than 50% of its territory under vines, it is one of the most renowned areas of the Oltrepò Pavese for the production of Barbera, Bonarda, Pinot grigio and Pinot nero, used as the base for sparkling wines. Volpara is also famous for its Moscato.

What to do in Val Versa

Following the Oltrepò Pavese Wine Route, it is possible to follow a scenic route through the vineyards, stopping to admire the landscape and discover the local wineries. There are also historic castles and fortresses with panoramic views of the valley, such as the castles of Montecalvo Versiggia and Montù Beccaria.

The Val Versa is also a paradise for hikers, with numerous paths to discover the local nature.
