The Museum of Contemporary Art in Montesegale

The Castle of Montesegale, a historical stronghold of the Ardivestra Valley, now privately owned, has been given a new lease of life as a place of art and culture, following extensive restoration work that has made it a tourist attraction.

Since 1975, the Castle of Montesegale has been enriched with a Museum of Contemporary Art, which has proved to be a springboard for a new cultural season for the small village. Three splendid rooms of the castle have been dedicated to an exhibition of contemporary art that has attracted the attention of artists and art lovers. Works that represent a fusion of styles, concepts and perspectives. In short, a grand opening that laid the foundations for a new promotion of Montesegale. In fact, the museum has helped to bring a breath of fresh air and artistic innovation to a historical and traditional context such as that of Montesegale.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony

The inauguration of the museum was an event of great resonance, with an exhibition dedicated to Orfeo Tamburi, a painter of international renown, who had long since passed away. Three famous art critics were invited to present the exhibition: Giovanni Testori, Raffaele Degrada and Alberico Sala. That moment marked the beginning of a series of events that followed over the years, helping to make the Contemporary Art Museum of Montesegale Castle a cultural destination of great value.

An increasingly consolidated presence

In the following years, the museum hosted exhibitions by prominent artists such as Ernesto Treccani, Maria Luisa Simone, Roberto Crippa, Paola Grott, Luisa Pagano, Dino Grassi, Boris Mardesic and many others. In addition to exhibitions, concerts and cultural initiatives were promoted, making Montesegale a dynamic and lively environment. This openness to different forms of artistic expression has contributed to a varied and stimulating programme that has attracted a diverse audience.

The commitment to presenting quality works and promoting art has thus made Montesegale Castle a popular destination for art enthusiasts, enriching the cultural landscape of the area, which on occasion becomes a lively meeting point for artists, critics and the public.

Culture and tourism

The love of art that animates the family that owns the 14th century castle has made Montesegale a real centre of attraction for contemporary artists and tourists. Thanks to the tireless activity of the family, the calendar of events is enriched with numerous cultural proposals throughout the year, especially in summer, when the rooms of the castle are transformed into a stage for exhibitions, artistic performances and concerts.

One of the most eagerly awaited events is the San Damiano Fair in October. A traditional folk festival during which the castle opens its doors to the public. On this festive day, which has become an unmissable appointment for those in the know, the culture promoted by the Museum of Contemporary Art is combined in a perfect mix with music and dance performances, costume parades and bow and crossbow challenges. Between the demonstrations of ancient arts and crafts, cultural events and medieval battles, there is a great opportunity to admire the majesty of Montesegale Castle and its garden.
