Exploring the hills of Montesegale 

Whether you love hiking, nature or history, the paths of Montesegale offer a walk that becomes a journey through time and a connection with the cultural roots of the village. Whatever route you choose, you will be surrounded by breathtaking beauty. 

The itinerary between Fornace, Gagliolo and Languzzano 

The hills surrounding Montesegalein the Authentic Villages of Italy circuit, hide wonderful paths that invite hikers to explore their breathtaking views.  

One of the most important itineraries begins at the archery range in the hamlet of Fornace. From here you can embark on a fascinating journey through Gagliolo, Poggio, Colle sant'Elena, Piano della Barca, Castignoli, Pogiolo, Languzzano and Case del Molino, before returning to the starting point. This itinerary covers a total distance of about 6 km, with an estimated walking time of about 2 hours and 30 minutes. The difficulty level is tourist, with an ascent of about 490 metres and a descent of 250 metres. 

Discovering the second route: between Piazza Nassirya, Monte Guardia and Bregne 

The second route starts from the charming Piazza Nassirya, where the Town Hall of Montesegale is located. From here, head towards Camolino, turn right for Sanguignano and continue towards Monte Guardia, Poggio Rajone, Cascina Nuova, Zuccarello, Gardinaia and finally Bregne, before returning to the starting point. This route winds through woods and hills and offers a spectacle of natural and historical beauty. The entire route covers a distance of about 8 km, with an estimated walking time of about 3 hours and 30 minutes. There is a difference in altitude of 560 metres on the ascent and 350 metres on the descent. It is a touristic itinerary of great scenic, natural and historical interest. Wooden signs and arrows guide visitors along the route.

The green expanses, the breathtaking views and the peaceful atmosphere create the ideal environment for a regenerating walk. The hills are dotted with ancient trees, fragrant bushes and wild flowers that colour the landscape. Every step reveals fascinating details of the history and nature of the place. Along the way you can admire ancient settlements such as Castignoli and Zuccarello and capture the essence of the rural life that has developed over the centuries on these hills.   

History told through places 

The paths of Montesegale are steeped in history, as is the village itself. Medieval architecture has been preserved here, telling the story of noble families and the local community over the centuries. The little church of Zucarello, very small and made entirely of stone, was used by the Benedictine monks during their passage through Montesegale. 

In addition to the historical component, the itineraries pass through places that played an important role in the rural life of Montesegale. Farms and farmhouses that bear witness to the ancient agricultural tradition and the deep bond with the land. Each step along the paths is an immersion in the culture and traditions of the area.
