Exploring the Staffora Valley by motorbike, an adventure to discover the beauty of Oltrepò Pavese

The Oltrepò Pavese area is famous for its scenic roads, which are very popular with motorcyclists in the summer. The Staffora Valley, in particular, offers an unforgettable experience for two-wheeled enthusiasts. Immersed in uncontaminated nature, among lush hills and medieval villages, this motorbike route offers breathtaking scenery and unique emotions. An adventure to discover the beauty of the Oltrepò Pavese on two wheels, cutting through the wind. Starting from Pavia, the journey takes you to Santa Margherita Staffora: about 80 km and a concentration of beauty. To be seen and enjoyed. 

The Staffora Valley 

Carved by the Staffora torrent, the valley is characterised by unspoilt nature and charming medieval villages that seem to have stepped back in time. The roads that follow the course of the torrent offer an exciting itinerary, with thrilling bends and postcard landscapes. A stopover can also be an opportunity to visit characteristic villages, refresh yourself with the local cuisine, taste the famous Varzi salami and admire the ancient castles that dominate the valley. 

Before arriving at the final destination of Pian del Poggio, this route offers many suggestions to make the journey through the charming Staffora Valley even more interesting. The beautiful park of Salice Terme, Cecima with its maze of narrow streets and the Astronomical Observatory, Bagnaria with its stone houses and finally Varzi, the "capital" of the Staffora Valley.  

The air cools at Pian del Poggio 

The last stop is at the highest point of the Staffora Valley: Pian del Poggio, in the municipality of Santa Margherita Staffora. A vast plain stretching between the hills of the Oltrepò Pavese. A true paradise for motorcyclists, with roads that wind through woods, hairpin bends and spectacular views. The road is particularly fascinating, with occasional steep climbs and breathtaking views. It is a real adventure to reach 1330 metres above sea level, a crossroads between Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna and Piedmont. Here you can stretch your legs with a ride in the Bike Park. 

Emotions and landscapes 

The thrill of riding along the Staffora Valley is a concentration of emotions and landscapes that touch the heart of every motorcyclist. The feeling of freedom when riding along the winding roads, the rolling hills, the panoramic views of the valleys make this an almost magical experience. 

A stop with tradition 

A trip out of the city is also an opportunity to sample local specialities. From a quick stop at the patisseries of Varzi to an inviting sandwich with Varzi salami. But that's not all. Along the way you will come across numerous restaurants and trattorias where you can sample cheeses, salami and mushroom dishes, accompanied by the fine wines of Oltrepò Pavese. 

Advice for the journey 

During the journey it is important to keep your concentration high. One of the charming features of the Staffora Valley is the change of scenery. You may find yourself on a long straight stretch of road, only to find yourself in a series of hairpin bends and narrowing roads. Enjoy the natural wonders that surround you and every moment of this wonderful adventure, but don't take your eyes off the road too much. Enjoy the ride!
